Glass Installation Checklist — 10 Things to Verify Before Payment

The exact pre-handover inspection every Philippine homeowner — and every OFW managing a build remotely — should complete before releasing final payment.

Why a Checklist Matters

The most expensive glass and aluminum installation problems — water leaks during typhoons, frames that will not close properly, glass breakage — are entirely preventable with a thorough pre-handover inspection.

1

Before Work Begins

Verify that the aluminum series specified matches the profiles delivered (check the extrusion stamp). Verify that the glass panels have a visible tempered glass certification stamp in one corner.

2

During Installation

The frame must be anchored to solid concrete — not hollow block or tile adhesive. The perimeter gap must be sealed continuously with a single unbroken bead of structural silicone, not cheap acrylic.

3

The Hose Test

No installation should be accepted without a hose test. Direct a steady stream of water at the exterior face for 5 minutes. Even a single drop entering represents a failure that must be corrected.

4

Final Pre-Payment Check

Operate every lock. Verify sliding panels glide smoothly. Confirm silicone joints are neat and continuous. Check weep holes. Do not release payment until every point is verified.

The Checklist

6 Points to Verify Before Final Payment

Walk through each unit systematically and do not release payment until every point passes.

Hose Test Passed

5 minutes of hose water directed at each unit from 1 metre. Zero water entry at any perimeter point. Weep holes draining freely.

All Locks Engage Correctly

Every lock on every unit engages fully and compresses the panel firmly against the weather seal. No rattle or movement when locked.

Smooth Operation

All sliding panels glide the full length of the track with no sticking, lifting, or lateral play. Hardware adjusted before sign-off.

Continuous Silicone Joints

All perimeter sealant joints are neat, continuous, and bonded to both frame and wall — including at corners and at the sill.

Weep Holes Clear

All track weep holes are open and unobstructed. Water enters the track during the hose test and drains freely to the exterior.

Tempered Glass Stamp

Every safety glazing panel has the certification stamp etched in a corner. No stamp means it is annealed glass and should be rejected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common handover questions from Philippine homeowners and OFWs.

What is a hose test and why is it required?

A hose test directs water at the exterior of a newly installed window or door to simulate rain conditions. It is the only reliable way to confirm weather-tight installation before handover.

Can an OFW supervise an installation remotely?

Yes. Designate a trusted local representative to be present for material delivery, installation, and the hose test. Ask for photos of the tempered glass stamp and the extrusion label.

What if the contractor refuses to do a hose test?

A contractor who refuses a hose test is not confident in their own work. Do not release final payment without it. If necessary, perform the hose test yourself and document any water entry.

What happens if my verification fails?

Document the failure with a photograph and notify the contractor in writing before releasing payment. Any reputable installer will return to rectify verified defects before claiming the final balance.
